Turtle Top Launches Third Model in Terra Transit Line-Up, Terra Transit LD

Turtle Top, America’s Premier Commercial Bus Manufacturer, is proud to announce the release of the third model in the popular Terra Transit family of products line-up, the Terra Transit LD (Light-Duty). The LD joins the MD (E-series based) and HD (F-series based) and EV (Motiv Plug-In Hybrid based) platforms already available on the Terra Transit.

Like many new models released by Turtle Top, the Terra Transit LD (TTLD herein) capitalizes on what customers expect from the Terra Transit while also featuring several market segment firsts. Built on the 2021 Ford Transit HD Cutaway, the TTLD is the first Terra Transit and only vehicle in the market segment to offer a fully integrated passenger windshield. “No matter how challenging, this model was going to have an optional windshield and it turned out great”, says Shane Tom, Turtle Top’s Sales Manager. The double contoured windshield offers an unprecedented 1980 SQ.IN. of passenger viewability. Couple that with the 58” tall driver A-Pillar window and you’ve got the new expectation for driver and passenger viewability in a narrow body.

Making the exterior even more special is the molded fiberglass process. All formed parts are produced using a closed mold two-part resin injection system. “The computer measures the exact resign needed for the entire part and injects it into a closed mold”. “This makes every part very uniform, consistent and removes excess weight from traditional open mold processes common in the industry”, comments Turtle Top GM Matt Sausaman. The TTLD joins the Terra Transit MD, HD and Vanterra all using this technology.

Also, part of the “firsts” is a standard flat floor. “We offer raised (flat) and lowered (wheel well) configurations in most of our models”. “This gives the operator entry step options, the LD had to follow suit, if our designers could ensure a good overall vehicle Center of Gravity”, comments Sausaman. The new LD features an all new floor system to integrate into the unibody 138” and 156” WB Ford Transit and hold the load of the available 156” and 190” Floors.

One glance at the new TTLD and you know it’s a Turtle Top. Available directly from the Terra Transit model order form, the LD offers everything the Terra Transit family of products has in its arsenal. However, the 82” interior width offers a little surprise over other narrow body cutaways. “The LD offers the true twelve passenger, two wheelchair position plus driver floor layout needed in this market”, says Tom. “It also offers enough width to do double 16” seats side by side when needed”. Like it’s big brothers, the Terra Transit LD offers value without sacrificing finish or any of the customers favorite options. It boasts the typical interior and exterior favorites as well as full line of storage, paratransit and electrical options. Like all Turtle Top’s the new Terra Transit LD is covered by the Turtle Top 5 Year/100,000 mile limited commercial warranty.
